The beginning of August is a reminder of many things. A reminder that the summer season is numbered, back to school specials and a time of reflection. For me, it is also a time to remember two Old Hollywood icons who died: Marilyn Monroe and Sharon Tate.
Marilyn was found dead of an apparent suicide on August 5, 1962. Sharon Tate was murdered today, August 9 1969, when she was eight months pregnant.
Instead of making a post about the senselessness of their deaths, I am choosing to celebrate their lives. Though I never knew them, both women inspired me in many ways, whether it was fashion or what it meant to just be myself.
I have compiled a few of my favourite images of Marilyn and Sharon.
Rest in peace – my daughters will know your names.
