Remember last week when I said that I was pulling clothes for models? Well, here is the exciting follow-up: my internship led me to my first time working Fashion Week. Yeah, you read that correctly. 11990604_10153337824997739_6348496369511108760_n

The event that I was covering was in partnership with The Weather Network. The
fashion show was held on the rooftop of the Thompson Hotel in downtown Toronto and I couldn’t have had a better experience.

My duties prior to the event included pulling outfits, putting the outfits together, taking part in the fittings as well as steaming the final products and giving the role call for the show. I know that this doesn’t sound too glamorous, but I constantly remind myself that there was a point in time when Anna Wintour steamed clothes and worked behind the scenes. Now look where she is.

That is literally the true inspiration behind the lyric, “started from the bottom now we here!”

The headlining endorsement product for this fashion show were Danier and Columbia, who provided coats, jackets, activewear and scarves for the models to wear. I thought it was pretty incredible to see so many people and industries come together to create this show and create unique outfits for each of the 18 models.

Of course, there was an after party that I got to attend and it was a great way to network, make people remember my name (and sense of fashion!!) and, of course, take advantage of the open bar. While I might have gotten a tad bit tipsy (no one noticed thank god!), I managed to walk out of that hotel with a few business cards and prominent figures from the business acknowledging my work and my sense of style. I’d say that this was a win in both my personal and professional life.

I cannot give enough thanks to Afiya Francisco, former Editor-in-Chief and current Style Expert and Founder of The Style House, for taking me under her wing and giving me such an incredible opportunities these last few months. It is really important that you not only network with the right people, but find role models that you know will actually help you and push you towards success.

DAY 86

Since Fashion Week coincided with my #100DaysofFashion Challenge, I will tell you about my outfit and why I chose this particular look.

If my previous posts weren’t a clue, I am in love with polka dots. So it shouldn’t be too surprising that I decided to go for some bold print mixing with my trousers and my blouse being two different kinds of polka dots. This particular look works, as the polka dots on my blouse are opposite to the polka dots on my pants, which offer a nice contrast.

Originally, I had thought that maybe a nude lip would be best for this look. Thankfully, my cousin Julia talked me out of it. “This is Fashion Week, you can be bold,” Julia had told me as I was getting ready. Thank God I listened to her – my look wouldn’t have stood out if I had done a nude lip.

It never hurts getting a second opinion from anyone, no matter how set you are on your look. New perspectives are so important.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is only the beginning for me. I am open to every opportunity that comes my way and I feel more fearless than I ever have in my entire life. I am so much more open than I have ever been, as I used to be so rigid and uptight about what I was going to do with my life and what kind of woman I wanted to be.

Now, while I know what I want my goal in life to be and who I want to be, I am so much more flexible with my methods and what opportunities I choose for myself. I find bravery to be one of the most beautiful things a person can have.

I’ve shared a couple photos of my Fashion Week adventure below. Thanks for reading this post and sharing this experience with me!
