There are some songs attached to memories that will heal you, and then there are some song that bruise you. And then there are some song that do both.

I am personally not a super fan of Miley Cyrus, but I do like some of her music. And her song “Wrecking Ball” has somewhat of a special place in my heart.

This song came out last year when I was in my third year of university. It also coincided with my first real heartbreak. I can say with full honesty that I cried for three months straight, as I have never experienced loss and heartbreak quite like that.

As it was my first real loss of love, I didn’t know how to cope. I didn’t feel like I could talk to anyone about it, because I feared judgment and I was scared about coming to terms with the fact that this love was over. So, instead, I turned to music. And the only song that seemed to understand the scale of sadness and heartbreak I was feeling was Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”

For three straight months, I listened to this song, without shame or rhyme or reason. At the time, I felt like this song was written about the circumstances I had been in. It had been a way for me to heal when I felt like my heart had been slowly bleeding out.

I’m still a little tender when I think about that failed love, even though it has been over a year. I am getting better though. However on those rough days, and even lonelier nights, I listen to this song. And then I feel like I can breathe again.

If you haven’t heard this song in a while, click the picture below.

  1. I admired the way Calypso waited for Odysseus, but then I remembered that Calypso wasn’t a real person.
  2. I fell in love with the false hope that looked a lot like you.
  3. I hated how dependant I became to my phone.
  4. I said that I didn’t want to be one half of something that didn’t exist, but that was exactly what I became.
  5. I saw a future, you saw an evening.
  6. Waiting was it’s own level of hell.
  7. I thought I could wait forever for you. I thought I would wait forever for you. But then I realized that I’d never been waiting for you. I was waiting for you to wait for me, while I’m chasing you and you never slowed down. And I still chased after you like an idiot.
  8. I was the only one who didn’t say ‘no’ and you knew that.
  9. You always wanted more and I gave all I could give, you selfish bastard.
  10. The call and the apology that never came.
  11. When I picked myself up off the bathroom floor, I decided that I had enough.
  12. Neglect was comparative to being beaten with a burning metal rod.
  13. I knew I wasn’t the only one.
  14. I hated how I let you treat me.
  15. For once, I wanted to be the one doing the walking out, not being walked out on.
  16. Sorry was just a bandaid for a bullet wound.
  17. There were other men who would have been proud to say that they loved me.
  18. You were never going to wait for me.
  19. I didn’t want to die waiting for you.
  20. I deserved to be happy, so I left.

My professor once told our class that there are poems she will never teach. She said that once a poem is picked apart, it becomes less beautiful and loses value.

Maybe I am a poem you took apart one too many times.

You tore at the verses inscribed within my ribs, chewed the words and spat them out when they lost flavour and tasted more like venom than the sweet things you lusted for.

I am the poem you’ll never find beautiful again.

ebfb56490088b7042fdb33c25c524330I feel like I can justify my somewhat inappropriate crush on Clint Eastwood by gawking at his son, Scott Eastwood. At 28 years old, Scott has his father’s handsome charm, acting chops and sense of style that screams leading man status. Later this year, Scott will be gracing the silver screen in the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ novel, “The Longest Ride” and there will be plenty of Scott Eastwood to go around. Until then, let’s all collectively swoon over how dashing Scott Eastwood actually is.

eef3606614534c94b05be749e3124bc7Similar to his dad, Scott is what you’d call a “man’s man.” This means that he comes across as masculine. This really comes out in his choice of style. Like most men, Scott is rather minimalist and wears few accessories. His outfits are usually simple in colour and then he will surprise people by inserting a bold colour to his outfits.

Even Scott’s choice to roll up his jeans is a subtle way to reveal how stylish he is without being too overt about it. That was a smart decision on Scott’s part.

5a67c00acae59814d3f700e69bb5d79eNautical fashion is the key ingredient to leading man status, especially since it means that hunks, like Scott, will be mostly topless. While it will be hard to ignore his ripped torso, try focusing on his choice of swimwear. The nautical stripes are a subtle and perfect choice. The overall simplicity gives off a masculine and sexy feel, which Scott was aiming for.
