DAY 58

I’ve been slacking on my posts lately, so I am going to make it up to you guys with a sudden rush of posts (stay tuned…).

So many people think that when going for job interviews you are confined to a look of slacks and blazers. While that certainly can be done, you can incorporate parts of your personality into your outfit.

Whether that is through animal printed scarves and shoes or an eye-catching tote bag, you can make a “drab” interview outfit look like something off the runway, while still looking professional and put together.

Today was a lazy day. And by lazy, I don’t mean wearing leggings and a big sweater with your school’s name on it.

My definition of casual fashion is wearing a pair of jeans with a simple shirt and no makeup. However, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t do something to make this outfit a little bit interesting to the eye.

In a grunge chic experiment, I stole my younger sister’s plaid shirt and tied it around my waist. I paired it with a pair of keds and my New York t-shirt and I deemed  myself ready for my lazy Saturday, filled with nothing but essays and assignments (And blogging, of course!!).

DAY THIRTY-FOUR

I recently went out with a group of friends to celebrate one of my close friends from first year getting accepted into Grad School. We were part of the VIP booth at a local club, and they have a very strict dress code.

I have been looking for an occasion to wear this outfit for a long time and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. The all black ensemble was simple, but it made a statement in its simplicity.

I chose to experiment with purple lipstick for two reasons. For starters, it is a shade I never use and decided to test it out. And second, purple lips liven up all black ensembles. You can use your body lips to be the statement piece rather than use an accessory.

DAY THIRTY-FIVE

I may not be a hipster, but I am definitely a prepster.

The weather has been significantly warmer than it has been in recent weeks, so I’ve been taking advantage of my skirts and sleeveless shirts.

I am also a huge fan of neutral shades. I kept it interesting by having my accessories be a subdued animal print.

No matter how crazy things get, make sure you do it with style.

Right now, my university is in the midst of presidential elections and the newspaper I work at has been busier than ever trying to get full coverage of it. While I have probably accumulated a total of 24 hours of sleep this past week, I have not let anyone see how tired I actually am or let my love of fashion be compromised.

While I have been interviewing candidates and former presidents everyday this week, I have taken it as an opportunity to put a few business casual looks together and show that I’m all about that work life (Even if it means losing a few hours of sleep!).

DAY TWENTY-SIX

Black and white boring? Not even close.

The day I wore this outfit, I had a wake up call at 6 am, 2 classes, 4 interviews and a 2 1/2 hour session at the gym. Instead of running around frazzled and in a pair of yoga pants, I put effort into my look and outfit.

I have always been a big supporter of peplums and a lover of pencil skirts, so I combined these two loves together and created a perfect look for the office. The overall simplicity of the outfit pulled together wonderfully and I embodied someone who was working, not a conventional university student.

I also don’t do anything too crazy with my hair, but the bun certainly gives off that professional feel that I was aiming for.

I have hit the first quarter century mark in my #100DaysofFashion challenge. I am a little bit further behind than I’d like to be, but I am still determined and inspired to get this all done!

Please comment down below if you have any suggestions or feedback – love to hear from you!

DAY TWENTY-FIVE

Green may be the colour of envy, but I see it more as a fun colour than something negative. With predominantly black accessories, you want to have one staple piece that has a pop of colour so that you don’t get washed out.

The cropped jacket from Zara and the statement bead necklace are bold but don’t take away the main focus of the green dress, creating a fun and flirty look that I crave.

So, this is my last fashion post as a twenty-one year old woman, and I don’t quite know how I feel about that! It’s a little bit scary, but exciting all at the same time. And I think that fashion should be the exact same way.

I really don’t have much to say, other than I really liked the outfit I wore today and am trying to distract myself of the fact that I will no longer be twenty-one in less than 24 hours!

DAY TWENTY-TWO

I am all about simplicity. I do believe that less is definitely more. Minimalist fashion is by no means boring or lame. It is forever classic and chic. Black and white pairs really nicely with one another and the peplum paired with a pencil skirt is very flattering of the female body.

My loves!

This was my first week of my final semester at Wilfrid Laurier University, and things have been crazy and my fear of becoming an adult is creeping right around the corner. Since I don’t want to worry about that before it’s actually time for me to worry, I am just going to focus on my studies and relish in these last moments of my undergrad.

Here are days 20 and 21. Stay trendy, my friends.

DAY TWENTY

So this is the outfit I wore on my first day of classes and I refuse to let the winter cold get to me. Wearing the gloves and coat that my little sister got me for Christmas, I paired it with my beloved beret and my houndstooth skirt and matching top with a beaded necklace.

While the flats look really cute with the outfit I made a wardrobe change before going to class – had to wear my over-the-knee boots to brace the elements.

DAY TWENTY-ONE

If it isn’t blatantly obvious, red is my favourite colour.

I am of the opinion that you can never have too much of a wonderful thing (in terms of colours, obviously!), as long as it’s done correct. My blouse evens out the all-over red in this outfit and doesn’t make the outfit overwhelming.

I don’t believe that fashion should always be taken so seriously. Use it as an opportunity to have a little bit of silly fun. My lip-shaped sunglasses are a mix between being fun and being trendy.

New year, new me.

With 2015 in full swing now, it’s time to get inspired by another year full of promise, dreams and new trends. I don’t make New Years resolutions, but promises. And the promise I have made to myself this year is to take more risks in all aspects of my life and to stay inspired by all the things that I love, rather than lose myself in things that I know will only hurt me. And one of the things that will inspire me is my love of fashion and dream of being the next Anna Wintour.

I promise that 2015 will be a year of acceptance and risk-taking. This will apply to my sense of fashion, as well.

DAY NINETEEN

New Years Eve is an opportunity to be completely decked out in fancy, flirty and jaw-dropping attire. This is when you can unleash your inner bombshell.

While staying in Downtown with my two best friends, I decided to end off 2014 and embrace 2015 with a daring look that I never thought I would wear. The laser cut midi skirt is proof that being sexy doesn’t have to involve showing a lot of skin.

One of my fashion beliefs is that if you want to be sexy on the bottom, you can’t be sexy on the top. Since I made the main focus of my outfit my legs, I chose a simple and understated white crop top. What appealed to me about this top is that it serves its purpose in keeping the outfit clean and pulled together. If I had chosen a top that showed a lot of cleavage, the outfit would come out looking sloppy.

Want to know my other New Years promise? It’s simple, really.

Don’t be envious; be envied.

Days just pass by when you’re dressed to impress.

Although the start of exams is tempting me into wearing leggings and sweaters, I am avoiding falling into that slump and trying to stay as inspired as I can to wear the clothes that make me feel good about myself. You can be stylish without dressing drastically or over-the-top, and that it what I tried to showcase in my outfit for today.

DAY EIGHTEEN

Polka dots are one of my favourite prints. I love them not just because they were the focal print of the 1950s, but they are also fun and upbeat. This polka dot dress is fun and flirt and represents everything girly. The pearls are also a classic touch.

This look is a nod to the fashion of the 50s, an era that very much inspires most of my wardrobe. Every time I wear this particular outfit, it automatically makes me feel happy. That should always be the intention of fashion – make you happy. IMG_2379.JPGDress – Forever21

Inspiration of the week: Blake Lively

518538743GC018_2014_GOD_S_LSomeone who always looks flawless, whether she is on the red carpet or just going grocery shopping, is Blake Lively. She has stated in many interviews that she does not work with a stylist because she trusts herself to make the right style choices, exhibiting her boldness when experimenting with different looks.

That boldness did not go away when Lively announced that she was expecting her first child with husband, Ryan Reynolds. Since announcing that she was expecting, Lively has not once stepped out in frumpy frocks or sweatpants. Rather, she has continued to display her love of fashion, while celebrating the next chapter of her life.

1413584882382_Image_galleryImage__MANDATORY_BYLINE_TO_READAs I had mentioned in my previous post, ponchos and sixties fashion are in this winter. And Lively is taking advantage of these trends.

Not only are they trendy, but ponchos also offer Lively the space and support she needs with her growing baby bump. She keeps this look exciting by wearing ponchos with eye-catching patterns and vibrant colours.

In the same look, Lively throws in looks from the 1960s. Underneath the poncho, Lively is wearing a short shift dress and pulls the look together with a pair of knee high boots. This casual pregnancy look is still stylish while allowing Lively to be comfortable with her changing body.

1415556097_1I am obsessing over the outfit Lively wore when she appeared on Martha Stewart’s show. Not only did Lively create an outfit that mixed together my love of midi skirts, white-on-white with a pop of colour, but she proved that you can still wear heels when pregnant.

To wear heels when pregnant, it is recommended that you know the preferred length of the heels so that you don’t lose your balance or injure yourself. Lively’s Christian Louboutin heels are chic but she did not choose a heel that exceeded her limitations.

blake_lively_2_1a4gcb5-1a4gcbjLively’s red carpet appearances thus far have been nothing short of elegant and daring. Embracing her latest role, Lively has meticulously chosen form-fitting gowns that accentuate her changing body and the life that she and Reynolds have created together.

Her red carpet choices also remind people that motherhood does not mean that you cannot be sexy anymore. Lively’s plunging neckline and form-fitting gowns are sexy and daring, fun features that are still applicable to mothers.

“I never think of how other people will respond to the way I dress.” ~ Blake Lively
